Family Self-Sufficiency Program

Setting Goals Leads to Success

The Union County Housing Authority has chosen to administer a Family Self-Sufficiency (FSS) Program to its participants in the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program. Designed to promote self-sufficiency among highly motivated clients, the program continues to grow rapidly. Clients who participate in the 5 year long program work with a case manager to set goals that will lead to economic self-sufficiency.

The Housing Authority has the capacity to enroll at least 25 participants / families at one time. The FSS program is introduced and explained during the Section 8 briefing session and again at the annual recertification meeting. Every effort is made to encourage participation in the program. Since the inception of the FSS program, 21 families have graduated from the program. To date successful participating clients have earned nearly $73,000.00 in escrow funds which can be used in a number of ways such as furthering ones education, a down payment on a home or purchase a more reliable vehicle.
